Calm After the Storm November 2008
Hello all, Well it has been quite a packed four months that finally culminated with our International Playwrights Forum. It was a great time and truth be told I am looking forward to reading and seeing what new work was inspired by our visiting playwrights. Individually, Velina Hasu Houston, Migdalia Cruz and Kwame Kwei-Armah are amazing- having all of them together was like an artistic tidal wave. Thank you to them for being so generous with themselves and their art and thank you to all of you who attended.

Obsidian is proud to once again be part of the Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creator’s Reserve Program. In a nutshell this program provides playwrights with funding to create/research/develop their work with no strings attached. Obsidian’s deadline for application is December 15 th so if you would like to apply please do so asap. While it may appear that we are going somewhat underground now that most of our producing has finished for this season I would contend that looks are very deceiving. The Mussorgsky Project will return in May and in the meantime our Playwrights Unit is in full swing. And yes there will be grant reports to write and budgets to create for next season but mostly we are working on “Where does Obsidian Go?” It isn’t very often that we get the time to consider and look at the entirety of what we do and plan for the future. So we will no doubt be sending you off a survey for your thoughts and input.
And finally, I would like to ask that if you have been a donor in the past or would like to become one now, please consider sending your donations in time for a 2008 charitable receipt. You can donate either by sending a cheque to our office or online via the Canada Helps website by clicking the following link.

As always, your support is hugely appreciated. So that’s it. Have a great rest of November as we gird up for the Holiday Season. All the best Philip
